We made our way to school the same way today. Michelle and I observed Tina's 9th Grade class and they shared about why and how they celebrate Christmas. There were many Christmas traditions that they shared, one of it includes a little game, whereby rice pudding is served, and a whole almond is hidden in the pudding. The one who is lucky enough to scoop the whole almond will win a prize. What's amusing is that they would find ways to win; one boy shared how he would "steal" an almond from the kitchen and put it in his bowl of rice pudding, and Tina shared how sometimes kids would sit beside their grandparents who would slip them the whole almond if they got scooped out. Of course, presents are a must!
In Malling Skole, the students get a 10-minute break in between two periods of the same subject and the 9th graders played a game - Ha, Hoo, Hee. It is a focus game to get the students moving and concentrate on something not related to studying. It was a fun game and those who did wrongly would be eliminated from the game until there are two people left. Michelle was good at the game and went all the way to top 3! Good job!
While waiting for our meeting with Tina and Helle, Britta (coordinator from MÃ¥rslet Skole), Noah and his host, Ms Sussie, Michelle and I explored more of Malling and took pictures along the way.
We relived our childhood at the swings at the playground.
Sights outside Malling Skole
We decided to check out another supermarket near the railway station in Malling. This supermarket is called Fakta and the prices are cheaper that the normal one that we go to.
I chanced upon the first halal certified food!
(well, even though they are instant noodles, it's still something)
We walked back to the school and we had a nice chat with everyone involved in the International Practicum. Happy smiles!
Dinner today was something interesting. We had home-made fruit juice and glutinous rice, cooked with some water and salt, and 2 boxes of milk to make it sticky.
The glutinous rice is served with cinnamon and sugar. It reminds me of some kind of dessert from Singapore, but instead of milk, we make it with coconut milk.
And that's about it for second day of school!
