4/12 Maarslet (10/52)

4/12 was a short day in school, but a long day of fun for me. Here is what Ms Sussi prepared for me for breakfast today! There is one sandwich, 1 apple, 1 tomato and 1 box of Yogurt :)

Next week begins my lesson delivery (gosh, I can't believe Maarslet School trusts me so much to teach a lesson on Singapore), so I have to get my lesson materials ready. Anyway, the school has a storage room where teachers can have access to all kinds of stationery. Here is how it looks! There's the photocopy machine that is open to all teachers as well!

Today also featured a special tea break! One teacher actually paid the School Canteen to buy 100 pieces of bread for all the teachers! I asked around why would the teacher do that. Apparently, a note is written beside the bread (in danish), and it writes that 'he hopes teachers can be more bonded together'. Indeed, tea break is a time for all teachers to come together to the teacher-lounge and relax. :) Appreciate the thought of this teacher!

I only have 1 English lesson, and apparently, more than 8 out of 23 people in the class reported sick and did not come for school. Ms Mette is worried for this class, because many students have not been reporting to class and are missing lessons. Still, she cannot do anything, because according to the school policy, there is no maximum number of medical leave one student can take, and students do not need to produce a medical certificate. As long as parents write in to the school on behalf of the student, he/ she does not need to report to school on that day.

I am meeting Ms Tina, Michelle and Roosh for shopping at Aarhus Shopping Centre. The train only arrives at 3.45pm, so I hang around outside for an hour to take pictures with nature. It looks really good!

The liquor here is also cheap at the Supermarket. I bought a Pear Cider for 16KR ($3.50). It was cheap, but not a good decision, because the drink is refrigerated, and it is already so cold outside. I don't understand the Danish lifestyle of drinking cold beverages/ drinks during a cold weather... Hmm.

Ms Sussi bought me a train concession ticket for me, but I had no idea how to use it. Hence, I was asking the commuters how can I pay for my trip with this ticket. The trip to Aarhus is 3 zones. I learn that I just have to clip the ticket once, because each clip is 3 zones. Hence, I asked, what happens if my trip is 4 zones. What I learn is that I have to clip the ticket once, and buy another 1 zone of ticket at the machine located the train station. Then I asked, what happens if I don't pay for my trip? They replied that there are officers patrolling around different trains to verify that one pays for the trip. Otherwise, offenders will have to pay double.

When I boarded the train, look who I saw! It is all the familiar faces and Ms Tina!

As usual, I began my journey in Aarhus Shopping Mall with Salmon Sushi from Sushi Mania!

As usual, I saw the beautiful lights outside the Street along Aarhus Shopping Centre!

Ms Tina told me that every Christmas, Salling shopping centre would feature some exhibition outside the Mall, and many would be interested to see what it is. This year, it features a Christmas City built with lego sets and it is surrounded by a moving train. Really creative and beautiful artwork!

Inside Salling Shopping Centre, it was selling traditional Danish chocolate cookies, also known as Liquorice. Really nice stuff for a typical danish snack!

We went to Tiger, a cheap local convenience stall, and try out some purple hair dye. I look pretty handsome with purple hairstyle, I must say... Haha, here's michelle and I try out the purple hair dye!

We ended the day and settled out dinner at a buffet restaurant, which cost 150 KR per person. It offers free flow of Chinese food, Japanese Sushi, and Vietnamese food! Except for Chinese and Japanese food which have been prepared, the Vietnamese food operates in a 'Zi-char' style, so as you can see, you will select a range of raw food and the sauce that you will want. A chef will prepare the food for you!

Here's what I have got! Prawns and Tiger Prawns, marinated with Garlic, Sesame, Pepper, Oyster and Soya Sauces! :)

Finally, I am ending off the day with this pose in the train. Here's me, tired, but feeling pensive and having full of reflections about this 1 week in Denmark. 10 days, and I have learnt so much. Can't wait for the next 42 days to unfold.
