9/12 Maarslet (14/52)

It is 10/12 here at Maarslet School, and look what I have got for breakfast today from Ms Sussi! There are two pieces of sandwich, 2 oranges, 1 red pepper and 1 pack of yogurt!

The day started off with an introduction about Singapore to Class 6C! Gosh this is my second time doing a presentation about Singapore and it is already so difficult to keep my interest high. But it is good while it lasted, and it ended off with a high-note when I asked them if they wanted to stay in Singapore. Many interesting answers, but the best answers came from students who tell me that 'it depends'. Many of my friends (even from NIE) form their opinion about issues quickly, without taking a step back and thinking about the broader issues and problems. Although they are just Grade 6, I hope they learn to understand that there is no one direct answer of a 'yes' or a 'no'. More often than not, answers border on the word 'depends'. It depends on many circumstances and situations that make up our decisions, and I really hope that with this introduction of Singapore, these students will always remember this important idea. :)

These students have so many questions to ask about Singapore, and I was 5 minutes late into my next class with 8D on Geography! Mr Thor decided that we will save the Singapore presentation for next week because many of the students have not started on their presentation slides on Geography! Hence, I went around the class to observe the Geography lessons. After the break, I began on my Singapore Presentation with Ms Lotte's Class, 7C. Many of them were evidently restless since it is the last lesson of the day and they were tired. Still, I hope my class was interesting for them, and they took away important lessons about Singapore!

After school, there was a school meeting, jointly convened by the social and administrative school leader on ways to build leaner's motivation. It takes place at the Teacher's lounge, where I hide in most of the time. It was decided that since it is danish and I would not understand, I will not attend for the meeting. Still, this is a snapshot before the meeting started. You can see that the lounge is not full yet, and teachers are coming in. Interesting that their teacher's lounge has a projector - really convenient for any occasions!

I have been researching on where I can buy Asian food in Aarhus, and I found one in Kongsvang - 1 stop before the Central Aarhus Train station, and 8 stops away from Maarslet. I decided that after school, I shall do some grocery shopping outside of Maarslet then :)

With the help of Google Maps, I arrived the shop named 'Thai Binh Trading' in 5 minutes. It was an easy walk! It was really funny when I entered the shop, because I tried to speak to the shopkeeper in English. She pretended to understand, and eventually she shaked her head and said 'I don't know English'. Haha, but she looked Chinese, and I ask her 'Do you speak Thai?'. She replied to me in an accent that was familiar with my mom's Cantonese. Then I decided to try speaking to her with my limited vocabulary of Cantonese, and YES she understood! I asked her where I can get Tom Yum Powder, and she pointed a shelf full of different types of Tom Yum Powder. I got so crazy, because this shop sells really cheap food, and most importantly, EVERYTHING IS CHINESE/ ASIAN FOOD!

That's right, I just have to take a picture of this, because they are all my favourite instant noodles in Singapore. You can tell, they have a wide variety of asian brands!

I decided that since all the food and spices are here in this shop, I shall take over the Kitchen for dinner and treat the family to Seafood Tom Yum Soup for the family today! They have been so nice to me, and the best part about living here is waking after a long afternoon nap and being fed with awesome dinner, so I thought it would be nice to prepare authentic Asian food for dinner for the family this time! Here's what I have prepared! Seafood Tom Yum Soup, with peeled prawn, mussel and crab sticks! Added chopped Onions and Garlic to the Tom Yum Soup to give it more smell and fragrance as well! (Oh, here's a disclaimer, it was Ms Sussi who cooked the rice, because I still do not understand what is my mum's ratio of rice and water in the rice cooker. Well, she told me many times, but I never get it. Haha)

Dinner was so long, and I am so glad that the family loved it and ate double portions of the food! Josephine was telling me how much she loved the crabsticks. Haha but honestly, I felt I made a huge mistake of putting mussels into the Tom Yum Soup, because the smell of mussels overtook the taste of Tom Yum, and what they got was more like Seafood Soup than Tom Yum Soup. But it's okay, I can tell that they loved it so much, and they are really thankful for sweet offer to prepare them dinner today. Klaus even offered to prepare dinner with me next time! I promise them I will prepare authentic Tom Yum dish next time - perhaps Tom Yum Chicken. Gosh, so thankful that I always ask Mum how she cooks. Otherwise I will just be eating all the time in the family, without returning them with a taste of how Singapore food is like! Ms Sussi treated me with white wine after dinner, and everything ended so awesome!
